The Books

When I began my journalism career, it was never a goal to write books. Then, however, an agent approached with an idea. "How about the 1986 New York Mets?" I had grown up with the team, loved the characters—and went for it. The result was "The Bad Guys Won!", which was one of the most enjoyable and fruitful experiences of my life. When that book reached the New York Times best-seller's list, I was asked to write another book. Then another. And what began as sort of a lark transformed into a passion. I love writing books—the digging, the probing, the elasticity of a subject. I recently submitted the manuscript for my 12th book, and the zest remains.
