About Me

I am the New York Times best-selling author of 11 books, as well as a former Sports Illustrated senior writer and ESPN.com and Athletic columnist. Over the past decade I have worked as a regular adjunct professor at Chapman University, where I've taught Intro to Journalism, Sports Journalism and Feature Writing.

My book, "Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s," was adapted into the HBO series, "Winning Time." I served as an advisor and producer on the show. I have created, reported and hosted podcasts for Audible and iHeart, and am the host of my own YouTube series,"Press Box Chronicles," as well as the weekly "Two Writers Slinging Yang" podcast.

In 2020, with the pandemic wiping out the in-person experience for scores of colleges and universities, I teamed with Jonathan Eig, the Pulitzer-winner journalist, to create "The Big Scribble," a nationwide collegiate writing competition/educational experience. Hundreds of students participated.

I live in South Orange County with my wife, Dr. Catherine Pearlman, and our two children,

"Never trust people who buy ink by the gallon."
